PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administration
    • Manage client details on cloud-based software (Zoho and Google platforms)
    • Manage inventory
    • purchase and tracking of supplies
    • Review staff timesheets and prepare for submission
    • Coordinate staff benefit plan
    • Prepare diversion reports
    • Data entry
  • Customer service
    • Answer customer questions and concerns by phone and email
    • Follow up with clients on questions or concerns

    • Manage social media accounts

  • Onboarding new residential clients

Compost Winnipeg seeks an independent and responsible individual to work as a compost collection courier.  Compost Winnipeg is a social enterprise of the Green Action Centre.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Compost Winnipeg is an environmentally driven social enterprise with a mission to manage waste responsibly and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by providing fee-for-service organic collections to Winnipeg residents and businesses, thus diverting organic material from the landfill. An estimated 40% of residential waste and 30% of commercial waste in the landfill is organic, which creates methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Profits generated by Compost Winnipeg support Green Action Centre’s environmental programs and activities.

The Compost Courier is responsible for safely and efficiently collecting organic waste on scheduled collection routes while collecting waste diversion data. They are also responsible for delivering organics to the composting site and for daily maintenance tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In cooperation with other Compost Winnipeg and Green Action Centre staff, the Compost Courier has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Safely and efficiently operate a collection truck on scheduled routes
  • Pick-up, weigh and track organic waste as it is collected
  • Transport organic waste to composting facilities
  • Clean and maintain compost collection bins as required
  • Actively participate in our efforts to maintain a safe and positive work environment
  • Regularly communicate and participate in logistics planning with the Compost Winnipeg staff
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintenance of collection trucks
  • Other duties, as assigned

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be reliable and able to work without close supervision. Key qualifications include:

  • Class 5 drivers license
  • A safe driving record, with a drivers abstract demonstrating little to no infractions
  • Organized, punctual, responsible and self-disciplined
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Able to work well with others and independently
  • Ability to consistently and safely lift 25 kilograms
  • Available for weekend shifts and statutory holidays
  • Knowledge of composting or willingness to learn.

DESIRED ASSETS:

  • Commercial driving experience and/or training

Purpose of the Position:

The Maintenance Lead is responsible for daily maintenance tasks for the shop, yard, vehicles and equipment. The Maintenance Lead is also responsible to safely and efficiently collect organic waste on collection routes and deliver organics to the composting site as needed.

Responsibilities:

In cooperation with other Compost Winnipeg and Green Action Centre staff, the Maintenance Lead has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide maintenance support (checking fluid levels, checking tire pressure, etc.) to vehicles and equipment (trucks, hydraulic lifts, dump beds, etc.).  Follow maintenance schedules for vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain and organize shop and yard (snow clearing, waste removal, organizing supplies, inventory, tools, etc.)
  • Minor maintenance of the building (door hinges, drywall patching, etc.)
  • Restock vehicle, equipment and office supplies
  • Cleaning and maintenance of compost bins
  • Complete electronic maintenance records
  • Bring trucks to and from mechanic shops for servicing/maintenance
  • Safely and efficiently operate a collection truck on scheduled routes as needed
  • Transport organic waste to composting facilities as needed
  • Actively participate in our efforts to maintain a safe and positive work environment
  • Regular communication and logistics planning with Compost Winnipeg staff
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Key Qualifications:

Green Action Centre Seeks an Administrative/Accounts Assistant for our Social Enterprise Operations.

Position Description: Green Action Centre seeks a dynamic, personable, administrative assistant for a 6-month term to work with our social enterprise, Compost Winnipeg.

Background: Green Action Centre is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, based in Winnipeg and serving Manitoba. We promote greener living through environmental education and encourage practical green solutions for homeowners, workplaces, schools, and communities. In 2016, we launched the social enterprise Compost Winnipeg, a fee-for-service operation that offers compost collection services to offices, food vendors, and households in Winnipeg. Our operation has grown quickly and we are currently working to improve our administrative and customer service systems to help manage growth.

Responsibilities: In cooperation with other Compost Winnipeg and Green Action Centre staff, the Administrative/Accounts Assistant has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain and monitor customer invoices, customer subscriptions and accurate billing records;
  • A/R account reconciliation and customer collections;
  • General bookkeeping and administrative duties, including data entry, mail and customer service;
  • Generate management reports from financial software as required;
  • Drafting and distributing documents, letters, and various correspondence;
  • Promotion and marketing of Compost Winnipeg services;
  • Fielding customer inquiries by phone and email;
  • Participate in the ongoing and continuous improvement of administrative and financial information systems and processes.

Qualifications: Must be reliable and able to work without close supervision. Key qualifications include:

  • Two or more years experience in a customer service/administrative role;
  • Bookkeeping experience and/or formalized bookkeeping/accounting training is required;
  • Strong communication skills in english both written and verbal;
  • Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented with superior interpersonal skills.
  • Experience using cloud-based software applications (Zoho & Google platforms) for the management of client accounts and operations is highly desirable;

The General Manager must be a team-orientated and innovative leader who collaborates with staff, key stakeholders, and the Board to strengthen operations and services while applying a strategic vision for development and growth.

Position Description:

Compost Winnipeg’s General Manager is a leader responsible for overseeing and fostering the growth and sustainability of one of Winnipeg’s fastest-growing social enterprises while maintaining quality service, environmental goals, and profitability. In particular, the General Manager will have strategic and financial accountability while leading and managing Compost Winnipeg staff and daily operations. This includes engaging with key stakeholders and potential/existing clients; implementing operations plans and policies; developing and managing budgets; monitoring financials; hiring employees and managing human resources; coordinating with Green Action Centre’s Bookkeeper and Office Coordinator; and reporting to Green Action Centre’s Executive Director and Board of Directors. With the organic waste collection being a business model with inherent and sometimes unpredictable challenges, the general manager will be called upon to problem solve and apply a calm, decisive and positive leadership style to guide staff.

Responsibilities:

As General Manager, you are expected to exemplify integrity, accountability, and excellent team leadership skills. You are responsible for the success of day-to-day operations, including meeting environmental goals, profitability, and productivity.

Primary Tasks:
● Lead operations, ensuring continual review and improvements to processes, procedures, and performance.
● Work to secure adequate revenue growth and funding for growing operations and meeting long-term capital development and expansion goals.
● Ensure proactive health and safety culture with operations and compliance with regulations.
● Hire, manage and lead staff, including training/coaching, reviewing performance, and disciplining.
● Oversee management of sales and client accounts.

● Assist with improving and organizing account management systems, and coordination with the Accounts Manager.

Qualifications:

Completed post-secondary education in business or environmental studies, or a combination of education and experience.
● 3+ years of management experience in service or other industry with responsibility for financial results and customer satisfaction.
● Experience working with the non-profit and/or social enterprise sectors, and a passion to create environmental change.
● Knowledge of best practices in human resources; experience leading and developing staff for success, and building a cohesive team.
